The majority of the Tasmanian data was provided courtesy of Department of Primary Industry, Water & Environment as this had initially been received as part of their annual dairy farmer competition.

Although all data is marked as ‘Average’ or ‘Top 10%’, this could reasonably be considered as coming from the top 50%-70% of farms and hence the Top 10% coming from the top 5%-7% of farms.

Sample numbers are continuing to increase.  Most of the data has been entered by rural professionals and a majority has full physical as well as financial data available.  The Australian Red Sky dairy benchmarks are calculated from a total of 286 farms.

The Victorian (Australia) South West Farm Monitor Project sheep and beef benchmarks include a total of 71 farms.

As a result of these issues and overall sample size, care should be taken when interpreting this data.  No claim is made that this data is fully representative of the dairying districts/countries identified.

The historical Victorian dairy data (1999-2001) is primarily sourced from the Department of Primary Industry (DPI) which has then been mixed with some further farm data. The data was not complete in all areas and as a result this cannot be relied upon.  The 2002/03 Western Australia data is sourced from the Western Australia Department of Agriculture and was collected using their in-house Dairy Farm Performance software.  The Victorian (Australia) South West sheep, beef and cropping data is sourced from the Department of Primary Industry (DPI) and was collected as part of their Farm Monitor Project.

To obtain benchmark data after installing the program you go to the second wizard screen and enter ‘Retrieve Farmer/Clients’ or go to the Main Menu and ‘Farmer/Clients’ then ‘Retrieve’.
